Process Parameters Helps Customers Understand Uses of pt1000 Temperature Sensors

The temperature sensor manufacturer breaks down the pt1000, a resistance temperature detector (RTD), to help customers choose the right measurement sensor for their application.

Process Parameters, a leading manufacturer of industrial temperature sensors, sheds light on the use cases of RTD Pt1000 in a recent guide.

A Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) is an industrial-purpose sensor that detects temperature based on a basic principle—as the temperature of a conductor rises, so does its resistance to the flow of electric current through it. One of the most used RTD is PRT (Platinum Resistance Thermometers).

Exhibiting long-term stability, excellent resistivity, and a wide temperature measurement range, PRTs have become an indispensable part of modern process industries.

According to Process Parameters, platinum’s capability to maintain a near-linear temperature-resistance relation makes it a highly accurate temperature sensor with excellent repeatability over a range from -200°C to +650°C.

Compatible with a host of processes and instruments, Pt1000 is a PRT with a nominal resistance of 1000Ω at 0°C. It operates in the temperature range between -200°C and +850°C. And with each 1.0°C variation in temperature, the resistance of the Pt1000 temperature sensor changes by 3.85ohm.

The higher fundamental interval and nominal resistance make the RTD Pt1000 2-wire circuit combination perfect for almost all industrial purposes—HVAC, automation, machine manufacturing industries, etc.

In a 2-circuit combination, Pt100 adds an error of +1.0°C to the measured temperatures. But for Pt1000, the error is compensated by the higher nominal resistance and reduced to +0.1°C.The result is a significant reduction in the costs of the final probe, making the temperature detection system extremely simple, the company says.

According to Process Parameters, the accuracy of the Pt1000 temperature sensor is a factor of the sensing element used in the manufacturing process.

Using flat film detectors for their excellent versatility, cost-efficiency, and higher stability, the company offers three tolerance bands with its Pt1000 RTDs that are proximal to Pt100 probes in terms of accuracy:

– Class B +/-0.3°C at 0°C

– Class A +/-0.15°C at 0°C

– 1/3 DIN +/-0.10°C at 0°C

The guide goes on to say that with all three Pt1000 classes, the accuracy is at its highest at 0°C and worsens as the temperature goes up or down from the base.

Backed by years of expertise, Process Parameters claims it can manufacture BS EN 60751:2008 compliant Pt1000 probes in many different configurations.

Incorporating terminal heads, flying lead sensors, or in-head temperature transmitters rigged in the probe, the company ensures delivering RTDs that best address a customer’s design specifications.
