Phuket, Thailand Jul 8, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Asia Long Drive Association announced the Asia Long Drive Championship 2022 taking place at Laguna Golf Resort in Phuket, Thailand on September 14-16, 2022. This will be the first in the series of long drive events happening on Asian grounds. The Championship is open to players from all Asian countries, as well as participants from Australia and New Zealand.
The players will compete in three categories: Open, Women's, and Master's divisions. However, in order to compete for the title, the competitors are required to fulfill the clearly defined criteria for each category: Minimum yardage for qualification is 280 yards for Open division, 240 yards for ladies, and 260 for Masters.
As for the schedule, the qualification rounds are set to run the whole day on the 16th and 17th, 9 AM-5 PM. The competitors will be playing a preliminary round divided into two groups, with 16 players in each group. They will be given six balls in 150 seconds. There will be five sets played round-robin style, where the top eight players get to advance to the final round.
The longest hitter in each category gets to take home the title of the Champion, direct entry to the PLDA World Championship 2022, and will pocket a prize money share. The total prize money purse available at Asia Long Drive Championship 2022 is 80,000 USD.
Asia Long Drive Association will offer live coverage of the Finals from start to finish. The game will be live-streamed through ALDA's official Facebook, Youtube, TikTok, and other social media channels so are sure to tune in. If you happen to miss the live game, there will be a number of TV channels throughout Asia showing highlights of the Championship.
As the governing body for the sport of long drive in Asia, ALDA aims to increase the number of long drive events across the continent and provide opportunities for all categories - men and women, youth and seniors - to play the game and have fun at the same time. As ALDA signed a partnership agreement with Professional Long Drivers Association (PLDA) last month, it made Asian long drive competitors eligible for the annual World Championship.
