KC-area $346M ‘rent-a-vet’ scheme sends second conspirator to prison

Stephon Ziegler of Weatherby will spend a year in prison for his role — or lack thereof — in a company that prosecutors say defrauded the federal government of $346 million. Ziegler was the putative service-disabled owner of a construction company; in reality, he signed checks and was a gopher for three co-conspirators who held real control and took most of the profits.
