Angelina Xu Awarded the Friedman Simon Academic Scholarship

The MIT Biology and Computer Science major takes home a scholarship worth $1,500.

JERICHO, NY, November 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Self-described "daredevil warrior" Angelina Xu is this year's winner of the Friedman & Simon Academic Scholarship. Designed to provide exceptional young people with financial support for a semester of college, the Academic Scholarship presents one student with $1,500.

Angelina Xu fits the "exceptional young person" bill perfectly. The founder and first president of the Miracle Network chapter at her high school, Xu led the organization in the push to raise over $10,000 for pediatric illness. Not content when in-person fundraising events were halted due to the pandemic, Xu also led 10 hours of Zoom support sessions for more than 1,000 families.

Angelina Xu's track record is impeccable. "Throughout high school, I also did extensive biomedical research and published numerous pieces of first-author research," she told representatives of Friedman & Simon. Those research pieces have been published in the National Institutes of Health, Journal of Emerging Investigators, and International Neuroethics Society.

Xu is heading to MIT, where she plans to major in biology and computer science on her path toward getting a PhD in biomedical research. Her goal in life is simple: "Many diseases are treatable, but patients don't receive adequate care due to extraordinary medical costs. By studying public health, I hope to lower these financial barriers," she says.
