CARC Begins New Expansion to Campus in Carlsbad, New Mexico

Home-Grown Community Business Continues its Mission

CARLSBAD, NM, September 29, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CARC, Inc., a business that provides residential, vocational, and habilitation services to individuals with special needs, has broken ground on two new buildings. This expansion will help CARC in its efforts to operate more efficiently and offer more services across its campus.

Starting in 1973, Bob and Barbara Forrest had a dream to help handicap children and bought the State Bird Farm property in the country on the north side of Carlsbad. Today, there are 12 group homes housing 78 individuals, a child day care program for 54 children, and a Early Intervention program serving over 200 children each year in Eddy County who have a developmental disability or delay. There are also 7 work programs that provide meaningful employment for individuals with special needs. CARC is the only licensed program in Southeast NM and has drawn individuals from all over the country.

The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony for a new administration building and an activity center.

"We've been planning for these two buildings for several years and now it's finally happening," said CARC CEO Mark Schinnerer. "The new administration building will allow us to be more efficient and the activity building will be a place for all of the CARC staff and clients to come together. We'll even be making it available to the public. We're excited about the continued growth of CARC and programs to serve many more individuals with special needs."

The new administration building will be approximately 5,200 square feet, and the new activity center will be 4,200 square feet. Both buildings will be welcome additions to the community asset.

"The dream of Bob and Barbara Forrest that led to the creation of this world-class facility has been a blessing to thousands of residents and to our entire community," said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. "We're very glad to see CARC's important mission enhanced with these new buildings.

Mitchell-Cruse Architecture designed the new buildings, and Trend Builders is the general contractor.

The Carlsbad Department of Development is the economic development agency for the City of Carlsbad and Eddy County, New Mexico.
