Energy Engineering Technology - China EV Maker Mulls Li-S Trial

Energy Engineering Technology reveals potential deal to supply lithium-sulfur battery packs to Chinese EV maker for long-term trial.

HONG KONG, September 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Energy Engineering Technology, the lithium-sulfur battery developer says it is inching closer towards concluding a lithium-sulfur battery pack supply deal with a Chinese electric vehicle maker. The supply deal, if concluded, will see the company supply 15 of its Li-S battery units which will be deployed in a long-term evaluation fleet by the unnamed automaker.

The firm has made significant advances in its efforts to combat the battery degradation issues that continue to prove problematic for many rival Li-S battery makers. It recently revealed that the Li-S battery in its long-term Chevrolet Bolt test mule had reached 2,000 charge cycles with only what it called "acceptable degradation".

Energy Engineering Technology's President and Chief Executive Officer, Luke Jones said, "This trial could be a major step forward for us as the customer is a major EV manufacturer in China. We would be delighted to disclose its name but they have asked us not to. They didn't elaborate on why they preferred anonymity but we assume it's because they have contractual arrangements with existing battery suppliers who may not appreciate them looking to third party suppliers."

The fifteen battery packs will be delivered to the customer by the end of November and as part of the trial arrangement, the customer will provide detailed diagnostics on the batteries' performance in a variety of use profiles.

Energy Engineering Technology says discussions with the carmaker would be unlikely to lead to firm production orders in the near-future since the trial would take place over at least 18 months but it remained confident in the reliability and efficacy of its batteries and the compelling case for their wider adoption within the EV industry.
