SHARING THE SUCCESS OF ASHA- JYOTHI’S 5TH ANNUAL 5K RUN/ WALK
PRLog - Sep. 29, 2013 - FAIRFAX, Va. -- Asha-Jyothi (AJ), a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education and health care for the underprivileged, is thrilled to announce and share the success of its Fifth Annual 5K Run/Walk held on September 22, 2013 (Sunday) at Fairfax Corner, VA. AJ also organized similar runs simultaneously in Somerset, NJ, Kansas City and Fremont, CA.

Thanks to a record number of registrations, sponsorships and volunteers, this year’s 5K Run/Walk was the most successful ever by raising over $100,000. This year AJ introduced chip based race timing.
Thanks to 150+ motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic volunteers the event was more energetic than ever and received rave reviews. The post-run activities always play an important role in the success of our event. Over 2500 participants across all the cities were treated with food, refreshments and foot-tapping music after completing their 5K. While kids were having fun with moon-bounce and face painting, the adults were totally immersed in the energizing music and dance performances.
AJ annual 5K event has served as a popular networking event for the locals, bringing long time friends together. The main attraction of this year was the involvement and excitement garnered by the youth. Future of AJ is in great hands with these youth of today who surprised the crowd with a fantastic flash-mob performance to a combination of Bollywood and hit pop-music in Fairfax, VA.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, fabulous prizes (including air ticket worth $1000, gift cards from local businesses, designer Indian dresses and spa certificates) were handed out to race winners and participants through raffle draws.

This year AJ organized a total of 40 campaigns education and health care campaigns. Through these campaigns AJ supports education of 1580 students from 34 schools on an ongoing basis and many others on an as needed basis. About fifty people per week avail free health checkup and medications as a part of health care program. AJ also organized two eye camps where Cataract surgeries were performed, in addition to providing free prescription glasses to the needy. It is estimated that a total of over 3000 people benefited so far from its medical campaigns.
One of the unique aspects of AJ campaigns is the ability for a donor or their family and friends to participate at the event. This provides the transparency that many donors seek and increases their trust in the organization, which usually results in giving more.
AJ is planning to hold its Grand Sixth Annual 5k Run/walk on September 21st, 2014 (Sunday). It promises to be on a bigger, grander scale with more fun and excitement lines up.
