Bautex™ Wall System Passes Storm Shelter and Safe Room Testing

By: PRLog
Bautex™ Wall System meets Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and international building code requirements for residential and community safe rooms for hurricanes and tornados with wind speeds of up to 225 miles per hour.
PRLog - Jul 16, 2013 - SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The Bautex™ Wall System, a composite insulating concrete form (ICF) manufactured by Bautex Systems, LLC, has completed testing that demonstrates the achievement of United States and international safety standards for building products used in the construction of storm shelters and safe rooms. Based on these results, the Bautex Wall System also meets the Florida Building Code and the Texas Department of Insurance requirements for windstorm debris penetration resistance.

Testing on the Bautex Wall System was conducted at the Wind Science & Engineering Research Center, Debris Impact Test Facility in Lubbock, Texas. During these tests, several Bautex walls were shot with framing lumber at speeds that simulate conditions in hurricanes and tornados with wind speeds up to 225 miles per hour. In every case tested, the Bautex Wall System prevented the projectile from penetrating into the interior side of the test wall, demonstrating the life saving potential of the wall system.

The Bautex wall assemblies tested meet the Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA 320 and FEMA 361 guidelines for residential and community safe rooms in storm zones with potential wind speeds up to 200 miles per hour (Zone III). By meeting the FEMA requirements for wind debris penetration, the Bautex Wall System provides “near-absolute protection” in extreme weather events for buildings located in all coastal regions of the United States.

These results provide further evidence supporting the durability and safety benefits of building with composite insulating concrete forms. The video of the Bautex wind debris test can be seen on the Bautex YouTube® channel.
