Arcangel Tattoo: Crafting Art on Skin as Identity, Sentiment, and Expression

Miguel Arcángel Serrano Plazas, known as Arcangel Tattoo, this standout Miami tattoo artist is transforming the way we think about skin art by turning emotions into beautifully crafted, inked masterpieces. The 26-year-old artist, often referred to as "the poet tattooist," boasts an impressive roster of clientele that includes famous celebrities and sports figures.

With eight years of experience in the field, Arcangel Tattoo has already collected a staggering fifteen awards in various tattoo categories such as lettering, shading, new talent, small black & gray, best portrait, and best of show. He has also travelled extensively across the U.S., participating in tattoo conventions and lending his talents to renowned tattoo studios.

"The world of tattoos is continually growing, and innovation is propelling this industry exponentially," said the poet tattooist. "Today, tattoos have taken on a more artistic and emotional plane where it goes beyond merely marking your skin: it is identity, sentiment, and expression."

Arcangel Tattoo recently shared the touching story of a client whose father had died from heart complications. The artist inked a portrait of the client's deceased father framed in an anatomical heart on the client's chest area. Months later, the client underwent emergency open-heart surgery. Today, the tattoo is perfectly healed, but now it intersects with a scar from the life-saving surgery. "The image is incredibly descriptive," Arcangel Tattoo remarked.

The tattooist poet specializes in black and gray tattoos, realism, and portraits, which often evoke strong emotions in the beholder or the wearer.

"Ever since I was young, I've always loved shades. Their presence and aesthetics drew me in and made me want to specialize in them. Even though I don't rule out the possibility of learning and working with colors more deeply, I would definitely stick to Black & Gray. I've always been attracted to this style, it feels quite imposing, and when you see it, it commands attention. It looks more serious, stronger, darker, and intriguing," explained Arcangel Tattoo.

The artist's moniker has a connection with his passion for merging music and tattoos. He comes from a family of religious musicians and has a long history with the church choir where he sang and played instruments such as drums and guitar. Today, he has demonstrated his talent as a songwriter and singer through his YouTube channel "TA2."

"I have a motto, 'one face two souls,' which means I want to unite music and tattoos. In fact, I have a tattoo of a tattoo machine and a microphone. My tattoo machine is shaped like a microphone. My pleasure is perfectly connecting my two passions. Often while tattooing, I take breaks to write, and even when I'm finishing the tattoo, I listen to a few beats to open my mind. Once the tattoo session is over, the action begins," stated Arcangel Tattoo.

The artist wants to normalize sensitivity in his unique way - by inking tattoos while also creating music. Looking ahead, the tattooist poet, who has worked with artists such as Nicky Jam, Akapellah, Farruko, Johana Vargas Marko Musica, Ronald Borjas, Rayito, and baseball players like the Contreras brothers and Carlos Gonzalez, plans to open his own tattoo shop. He envisions it as a space where people can come not only to get tattooed but also to immerse themselves in the art movement.
