In a landmark initiative the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Black Advisory Business Council is partnering with the Hillsboro Schools Foundation to launch the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship Fund. This effort was fervently led by Titonian Wallace Sr., Vice Chair of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Black Advisory Business Council, Chair of the Small Business Entrepreneurial Council and Owner of Nesace Media. This pioneering scholarship, the first of its kind for the City of Hillsboro, is dedicated to supporting Black Seniors from all Hillsboro High Schools, marking a significant step forward in fostering educational opportunities within the local Black community.
“With the establishment of the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship Fund, we are not only providing financial support but also empowering our young Black students to realize their potential and achieve their educational aspirations,” said Titonian Wallace Sr. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the talents and dreams of our future leaders.”
The scholarship, administered by the Hillsboro Community Foundation (HCF), is designed to assist students pursuing higher education or vocational/trade programs. Eligible students must demonstrate a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, financial need, and have at least one month of paid work experience. The scholarship encompasses support for studies at non-profit community colleges, 4-year colleges/universities, and accredited vocational/trade schools.
Starting in 2024, the fund plans to award at least one academic and one trade school scholarship annually. The initial funding goal is set at $25,000, with Titonian Wallace Sr. contributing $1,000 to kickstart the fund. Donations are welcomed and are tax-deductible, as the HCF is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Donations can be made by mail: Hillsboro Community Foundation, P.O. Box 808, Hillsboro, OR 97123, (Please mention "BABC Scholarship Fund" in the memo line)
