Co-innovation receives 2026 KLAS Points of Light and K2 Collaborative Peak Awards for connected value-based care workflows

athenahealth today announced it received 2026 KLAS Points of Light and K2 Collaborative Peak awards alongside Aetna CVS Health and Catalyst Health Group for their joint effort to advance real-time clinical data exchange across payer and provider workflows. This initiative demonstrates how interoperable, real-time access to clinical information can reduce administrative friction and support more seamless care coordination between payers and providers.

“Value-based care depends on timely, actionable clinical information being available within provider workflows,” said Sam Lambson, vice president of Data and Ecosystem Platform at athenahealth. "By enabling intelligent, real-time data exchange across the healthcare ecosystem, we’re helping reduce operational friction and support more coordinated patient care.”

This collaboration provides a closer look at how interoperable clinical data exchange supports more connected care coordination between payers and providers. Read the full KLAS Points of Light case study highlighting this work here.

Reducing Administrative Friction with Real-Time Clinical Data Exchange

athenahealth and Aetna collaborated to scale real-time clinical data exchange across athenahealth’s network earlier this year, building on HL7 FHIR and Da Vinci interoperability standards to support more connected value-based care workflows. Through athenahealth’s interoperability capabilities, Aetna gained more efficient access to clinical insights that support quality and risk initiatives across participating provider organizations, including Catalyst Health Group.

“This work reflects the progress the healthcare industry can achieve when payers, providers, and technology organizations collaborate on a shared foundation of interoperable data,” said Jocelyn Keegan, VP of Interoperability, Aetna CVS Health. “Creating more connected workflows helps support better visibility, stronger collaboration, and more informed care decisions.”

The annual KLAS Points of Light awards recognize payer, provider, and healthcare IT collaborations that advance more efficient, connected care. The K2 Collaborative Peak Award further recognizes standout efforts selected by attendees at the KLAS K2 Collaborative Summit for their impact, scalability, and innovation.
