KTB2140: Optimized for High Efficiency, Supporting Full Range Power Over Ethernet (PoE) bt and 200W Telecom Applications
Power management leader, Kinetic Technologies, is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of KTB2140. This single-chip, highly integrated active-clamp current-mode PWM controller solution is designed for isolated power supply and Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Devices (PD) and significantly improves efficiency, while reducing the PCB area.
This KTB2140 current-mode PWM controller can operate as an active-clamp flyback or forward converter, with a wide 8V to 80V input range. It is optimized for highest efficiency with best-in-class dead-time programmable range and ultra-fast MOSFET gate driver rise and fall times. Programmable spread-spectrum switching frequencies give designers flexibility to mitigate EMI problems. Switching frequencies ranging from 100kHz up to 1.2MHz allow small form factor designs with smaller transformers. Protection features include OCP, short-circuit, thermal, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and over-voltage protection (OVP).
KTB2140 fully supports the IEEE® 802.3bt 90W specifications and is also compliant with IEEE® 803.2af/at applications. Key applications for the new KTB2140 include Conference Systems, Wireless LAN Access Points, Security Cameras, and 30W–200W Switch-Mode Power Supplies.
Senior Director of Product Marketing at Kinetic, Erik Ogren, says, “Artificial Intelligence (AI) is driving many emerging product trends including needs for higher efficiency in Datacom, Telecom and additional power-hungry features in PoE PDs. Our newest current-mode controller solution not only brings higher efficiency for 48V designs up to 200W, but does it with smaller PCB area.”
