ATLANTA, GA / ACCESS Newswire / November 3, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who is proud to interview and honor Fatima Donia Mili, MD, PhD, for her distinguished career in epidemiology, medicine, public health research and global disease surveillance. Dr. Mili has also received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing a career spanning more than three decades of scientific research, emergency response, teaching and mentorship. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals are selected on the basis of current reference value, with factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field considered during the selection process.

A medical doctor and research epidemiologist, Dr. Mili has spent much of her career with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her expertise encompasses epidemiologic and statistical research methods, clinical epidemiology and large population-based surveillance systems to study the causes, distribution and control of genetic and chronic diseases, blood disorders, HIV and COVID-19 in human populations. Her work has also examined disparities affecting racial and ethnic minorities and underserved populations in the United States.
In her Marquis Who's Who interview, Dr. Mili noted that, since 2016, she has served as a senior medical epidemiologist in the CDC's Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis, adding responsibilities as a mentor in epidemiology and surveillance in 2017. Previously, she spent seven years as a medical epidemiologist in the Division of Blood Disorders, where she also mentored professionals in epidemiology and biostatistics. Her extensive teaching experience includes roles at Morehouse School of Medicine and Emory University as well as instructional work within CDC programs.
She remarked in her Marquis Who's Who interview that published research studies involve HIV infections and other diseases and organisms prevented through PEPFAR-supported blood safety programs, evaluation of the World Health Organization's Global Database on Blood Safety, national blood transfusion services in sub-Saharan Africa, injection safety practices among health care workers in Cambodia, genetic and social determinants of blood disorders, and racial and ethnic differences in access to medical care. Her ResearchGate record also includes more recent presentations analyzing data from PEPFAR-supported countries and global HIV programs: ResearchGate
Dr. Mili considers her research and scholarly publications among the defining accomplishments of her career. In addition to publishing impactful peer-reviewed articles and reports, she has presented at national and international scientific meetings, contributed chapters to medical textbooks and participated in multidisciplinary working groups, expert advisory panels and institutional review boards. Research she conducted on health disparities attracted congressional attention and helped contribute to broader discussion surrounding health care inequity in the United States.
During her Marquis Who's Who interview, Dr. Mili explained that her contributions have extended into public health emergencies and international collaboration. She has served as a technical expert with the PEPFAR Interagency Collaborative for Program Improvement, participated in the CDC COVID-19 Data Analytics and Visualization Task Force and contributed to a World Health Organization working group focused on global blood safety and availability. Her CDC emergency-response experience has included leadership and collaboration with epidemiologists, statisticians, task forces, advisory groups and other federal entities.
Dr. Mili earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Geneva in 1981, followed by a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health in 1989 and a PhD in epidemiology from Emory University in 1997. She also completed the CDC's prestigious Epidemic Intelligence Service fellowship from 1989 to 1991.
Her accomplishments have earned numerous honors, including the CDC's Excellence in Epidemiology - Domestic Award and Excellence in Emergency Response Toby Merlin Award - Domestic in 2021, the Early Career Author Award from the Research Triangle Institute and an Outstanding Epidemic Intelligence Service Award from CDC. In addition to the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, she has been recognized in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Women.
She says in her interview that she attributes her success to hard work, commitment, passion for epidemiology and medicine, and a structured academic and interdisciplinary background. As she approaches the next chapter of her career, she intends to remain engaged through consulting, teaching and community service while dedicating more time to sports, travel and classical piano.
