MDelite Donates TrilogyPro Laser to BJC Children’s Hospital to Expand Teen Pilonidal Disease Treatment

Donation addresses cost barriers and offers long-term relief through advanced laser hair removal for pediatric patients.

ST. LOUIS, MO / ACCESS Newswire / April 15, 2025 / MDelite, a leading provider of aesthetic and vision technology, has donated its TrilogyPro laser hair removal system to BJC Children's Hospital to support pediatric patients suffering from pilonidal disease-a chronic, painful condition that commonly affects teens and young adults.

The donation supports BJC's Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS), where pilonidal disease is among the most frequently treated conditions. The disease develops near the tailbone and often causes swelling, drainage, and recurring infections due to ingrown or trapped hairs. Long-term hair removal is the gold standard for reducing recurrence, but laser treatments are often inaccessible due to high out-of-pocket costs.

"In over 25 years of selling laser hair removal devices I had never heard of this indication until it happened to a friend's son who called me for help," said James Schoemehl, CEO of MDelite. "After aligning with Children's Hospital and better understanding this condition, we made the decision to donate a TrilogyPro device. This will help offset the cost for families, many of whom can't access treatment because it's not typically covered."

In an industry often defined by bottom lines and sales targets, MDelite's decision stands out as an act of service.

"In a business that is very profit-driven, MDelite has shown that we're also driven by doing the right thing when it matters most," Schoemehl added. "I've never seen anything like this done in my 25-year career."

To ensure smooth implementation, MDelite conducted in-person training at BJC Children's Hospital on February 5, 2025. Led by Tina Missonellie, with Schoemehl in attendance, the session equipped the PAWS team with hands-on instruction to use the TrilogyPro laser with confidence and care.

Laser therapy offers a safe, effective way to reduce recurrence, minimize the need for repeat care, and improve quality of life. The TrilogyPro device-with contact cooling and the ability to treat all skin types-is well-suited for pediatric use.

"Treating Pilonidal disease can be very challenging due to its location," said Jen Seigel, NP - PAWS/Pediatric Surgery at BJC. "Hair in the area complicates care. With older pediatric patients, razors and creams can be embarrassing, as they often need help from a parent or caregiver."

"The donation gives our patients more hope. Teenage life is hard enough without managing a condition that affects a sensitive area."

Laser hair removal not only improves physical outcomes but also restores autonomy and dignity for adolescent patients.

"I've worked with patients with this condition for over two decades, and I've seen a real change in their demeanor now that they have a long-term option. It feels good to offer this," Seigel said.

"While we did this to simply do a good thing, I think it is important that we let our act serve as a testament to who MDelite is as a company," added Schoemehl.
