TransAstra to Demonstrate Capture Bag on the International Space Station

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / December 2, 2024 / TransAstra, a leader in space sustainability and asteroid mining technology, announces the signing of a contract with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), the manager of the International Space Station (ISS) National Lab to demonstrate TransAstra's revolutionary Capture Bag technology; the mission is targeted for late 2025. Under this agreement, CASIS will fund half of the transactional costs for performing the demonstration.

This milestone marks a critical step in TransAstra's mission to address the growing challenge of orbital debris while advancing its asteroid mining capabilities. The Capture Bag, designed to safely and efficiently capture orbital debris and small asteroids, positions TransAstra as a frontrunner in developing solutions that are vital for both national defense and civilian space operations. Success in this demonstration will pave the way for future contracts aimed at mitigating orbital debris-a top priority for government and commercial stakeholders alike.

"The in-space demonstration of the Capture Bag is a transformative moment for TransAstra," said Joel Sercel, CEO of TransAstra. "This is more than just a test-it's an important step toward operational deployment of technology that will safeguard critical space infrastructure and unlock the massive economic potential of asteroid mining."

The demonstration will take place within the Bishop Airlock on the ISS. This effort ensures that the Capture Bag is tested in a controlled environment that mirrors the real-world conditions of space operations.

Designed to support a broad range of missions, from orbital debris cleanup to resource acquisition, the Capture Bag represents a cornerstone of TransAstra's vision for a sustainable and economically viable space economy. By leveraging innovative technology and strategic partnerships, TransAstra aims to deliver solutions that enable humanity to operate responsibly and productively in space.
