Amakusa Releases Single “Kenshiro”: A Metallic Ode to the Hero Amid a Ruined World

The heavy metal band from the Japanese pop culture community, Amakusa, officially released their latest single titled “Kenshiro” in April 2025. Inspired by post-apocalyptic themes and the iconic character Kenshiro from the legendary series Fist of the North Star, the song channels courage and destruction in a world forever changed by nuclear war.

Wrapped in a majestic and emotionally explosive composition, “Kenshiro” features lyrics such as:

Great devastation Yield ourselves surrender We thread the path Of utter demolition

...and a hard-hitting chorus:

Under the north star The unsung hero A thousand battles Everbearing danger

The repetition of the Latin chant “omnia magna stella heros prae” adds a grand, ceremonial feel, while the iconic closing line “Omae wa mou shindeiru” offers a stylish nod to fans of Fist of the North Star.

Released digitally across platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, this track marks a new chapter in Amakusa’s ever-evolving musical exploration.

Dira Rahimsyah (Here Us), the song’s producer and also Amakusa’s keyboardist, stated:

Amakusa has created something that hits not just musically, but emotionally. This song is a love letter to the Japanese pop culture that raised us, and Kenshiro is a symbol of silent yet unshakable strength. I’m proud to be part of this creative process.”

About Amakusa

Amakusa was born out of the student community at the University of Indonesia, officially forming on April 1st, a date often linked with jokes, yet a serious turning point for the band. The name “Amakusa” was taken from a favorite character in a fighting game, reflecting their deep love for gaming and Japanese culture.

Initially recognized for covering X Japan songs on Japanese community stages, Amakusa gradually shaped their identity as a Japanese pop culture, rooted band with a heavy metal sound, progressive touches, and uniquely slice of life themed lyrics.

Their journey was far from smooth, during their first performance, they were even asked to stop playing by the audience. But it was from that low point that they grew. Since then, they’ve performed as guest stars and opening acts for Japanese artists like LOKA and Ryutaro Makino, contributed to the soundtrack of the film Love Reborn, and won at Hammersonic Festival 2018, the largest metal festival in the Asia Pacific region.

Known for their intense live performances and distinctive musical character, Amakusa aims to elevate Japanese influenced heavy metal to new heights in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
