Explanation of indictment by the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office
against chairman of the company Mr. Kuen-Yao Lee

Hsinchu, Taiwan, May 11, 2007 -

AU Optronics Corp. (“AUO” or the “Company”) (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO) announced that its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kuen-Yao Lee, who is also Chairman of BenQ Corporation (“BenQ”), and four other BenQ executives or managers were indicted on May 8, 2007 by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors’ Office for alleged insider trading of BenQ stock and other related charges.
 
This matter is in judicial process, and the party has already retained counsel to handle the matter.
