| MATERIAL FACT |
In compliance with the terms of article 157, paragraph 4, of Law no 6,404/76 and CVM Resolution nº 358/2002, ARACRUZ CELULOSE S.A. ("ARACRUZ") announces that taking into consideration the need to preserve the Company's liquidity the Board of Directors decided, on this date, to temporarily suspend the expansion project of the Company's industrial plant located in the Municipality of Guaíba, State of Rio Grande do Sul, until further deliberation of the Board. ARACRUZ maintain its intention to resume investments in the project as soon as the market conditions so justify.
