Trinity Medical Sciences University Dedicates Their New Learning Facility to a Local Leader in Medical Education

Trinity Medical Sciences University, a leading international medical school, is pleased to announce the dedication of its medical education center in honor of W. Douglas Skelton, M.D.

WARNER ROBINS, GA, April 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Trinity Medical Sciences University, a leading international medical school, is pleased to announce the dedication of its medical education center in honor of W. Douglas Skelton, M.D. This newly designed facility is located in the Houston Health Pavilion.

Trinity's President and CEO Mr. Steven Wilson said "Dr. Skelton is one of the few extraordinary people that you meet during a lifetime. He has the rare gift of knowing exactly how to balance everything in a school, while keeping the focus on student success and outcomes. He is the best at that. He has been a great friend and confidant and I wanted to find a way to give back to him, dedicating this new learning center in Warner Robins was the best way to honor him and his name."

Following his graduation from Emory University School of Medicine and a psychiatric residency at Columbia in New York, Dr. Skelton returned to Emory where he served as Chief of Psychiatry at Grady Hospital and then as Medical Director of the Georgia Mental Health Institute. From 1974 to 1980 he served Georgia as Director of Mental Health under Governor Jimmy Carter and as Commissioner of Health and Human Services for Governor George Busbee. Dr. Skelton also served as a member of the National Advisory Mental Health Council during the Carter administration.

In 2012 he received the Community Physician of the Year Award from the Medical Association of Georgia, and in 2014 the Distinguished Service Award from the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association.

Dr. Skelton joined the Trinity family in 2012 at a pivotal time in the school's history. His immense knowledge, experience, leadership skills, and unbridled enthusiasm for medical education swiftly propelled the school to academic, operational, and administrative excellence. Under his leadership as Dean and Chancellor, Trinity secured the highest accreditation level possible. A stalwart of the school, friend and mentor to students, faculty, and staff, we are fortunate to have him as a member of our family.
