FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Hartford, CT – April 7, 2021- One of the most valuable communication skills that a human can possess is the art of negotiation. Negotiation takes skill, persuasion, and perseverance.

There is a competition to gauge the negotiation skills of those who are interested. The Negotiation Center hosts a worldwide negotiation competition, where negotiators from all over the world come together to put their skills to the test.

Of these competitors, one team stands out in particular; Jasdeep Singh and his team representing the University of Connecticut. Singh and his team have proved their skills and are headed to the world finals!

Jasdeep Singh of UConn holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership, and is currently a second-year MBA student. He is currently the Director of Operations and Marketing at 3BC.

Jasdeep has also written a fascinating article on negotiation. Titled, “Negotiation Apparently Can Be Learned”, Jasdeep provides a variety of helpful strategies to help negotiators everywhere improve.

Not only does he provide strategies, but in the manner of a true negotiator, he also provides the purpose of each argument so that you can fully understand each strategy.

In his article, Jaseep says “Negotiations are complex and based on relationships, context, and goals. Learning and practicing specific skills can completely change how you view the process.”

Alongside Jasdeep are his partners, who also helped the team make their deep run in the worldwide competition.

Kelly MacCluen, who studied Art History and Communications from Roanoke College. She is now in her first year of law school. Kelly is an expert and hearing out and understanding the opposing side’s arguments. Kelly’s optimistic attitude always draws out the best in the team!

Sam Gagnon is also a first-year law student. He studied Business Administration at Eastern Connecticut State University. Sam’s calm demeanor and ability help the team navigate complex offers. He excels in keeping the team focused in order to maintain a productive conversation.

With this stacked lineup of super students, it is no wonder they are competing in the finals. However, the competitors themselves cannot take all the credit.

“We’d like to thank our coaches, Nora Madjar and Jessica Rubin, for their time, support, and feedback and our partner UConn team for their continued help.” the team collectively wrote.

“The team has worked very hard to get this far, and we are absolutely thrilled to be in the finals!” said Jasdeep.

The team has some time to prepare for the finals, as the competition concludes on April 10. The competition is entirely virtual this year.
