Assurant Appoints Jay Rosenblum Chief Legal Officer

Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), a leading global provider of lifestyle and housing solutions that support, protect and connect major consumer purchases, today announced the appointment of Jay Rosenblum to the role of chief legal officer for Assurant effective immediately. Rosenblum joined Assurant in 2019 as senior vice president, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, and has been acting as co-interim chief legal officer since February of this year. He will continue to report directly to Alan Colberg, Assurant president and CEO and serve on the company’s Management Committee.

In this position, Rosenblum will lead Assurant’s global legal department, including compliance, government relations, regulatory affairs and other legal matters affecting the company. In that role, he will serve as a key advisor to the Assurant Board of Directors and oversee corporate governance matters. Greg DeChurch, senior vice president, will continue in his capacity as Deputy General Counsel and Mariana Wisk, vice president and corporate counsel, has been appointed Corporate Secretary. As Corporate Secretary, Ms. Wisk will act as a liaison to the Board of Directors and shareholders, advising and engaging on corporate governance matters. Both will report to Rosenblum.

In his previous capacity, Rosenblum brought his depth of expertise to quickly advance Assurant’s global government relations and regulatory affairs strategy, working in close partnership with Assurant’s business leaders, establishing engagement priorities, building relationships with external stakeholders and advocating for the company’s policy and regulatory positions.

“I am pleased to elevate Jay to the top legal role for our company,” said Colberg. “In a very short period of time, he has proved himself to be an invaluable strategic and legal resource to our business across the world. His varied background has enabled him to quickly assess and address issues from different perspectives that best align our business priorities with government and regulatory guidelines.”

Rosenblum joined Assurant in June 2019 from Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, where served as Chief Human Resources Officer after being promoted from his role as senior vice president of Government Affairs. Prior to Guardian Life, Rosenblum was senior vice president of Government Affairs and associate general counsel at The Hartford Financial Services Group and Director, Legislative and Regulatory Policy at Ernst & Young. He began his career in government, holding positions in the U.S. Department of Labor and The White House, and served as a law clerk for Judith W. Rogers on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

Rosenblum received his bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and his law degree from the George Washington University Law School.
