CDMG Discusses Metal Building Insulation

Canonsburg, Pennsylvania-based CDMG recently published a new blog entry where they outline the importance of proper insulation in a metal building.

Thomas M. Corry, a spokesperson for the company, invites the community to read their new article titled "The Best Options For Insulating A Metal Building.” He says, "While metal buildings are a great choice for a business, there are several aspects that one must consider before following through with this idea. One of the most important of these is the insulation, as this can be a very cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption when heating a building."

In this article, where CDMG discusses the best metal building insulation options, the company explains that it is more often than not a good idea to install proper insulation if the building is situated in an area with extreme temperature swings. Notably, this applies whether or not the building is made of metal. This is something that often escapes the mind of first-time builders and can cause some serious issues in the future, where repairs or expensive modifications may be needed to add insulation later on.

The specialists explain that insulation works by controlling the flow of heat through the walls and roofing of a building. A proper insulation package will slow the movement of heat, keeping it inside the building, during the winter, and doing the opposite during summer, where it prevents it from entering the building.

Proper insulation will also prevent the formation of condensation, blocking the passage of water vapor so it does not condense onto the interior building surface or dampen the insulation fibers. A direct consequence of not having insulation is the appearance of rust, caused by condensation and the water it creates. For metal buildings, this can be disastrous, as the building's structural integrity can be compromised if rust collects for an extended period of time. Corry explains, "This catastrophic result that can cost tens of thousands of dollars to fix in the future can be easily prevented with proper insulation. This will prevent condensation from forming in your roof and walls of your building, extending a building's lifespan greatly."

CDMG advises that there are certain factors to look into when trying to choose a type of insulation, as different materials provide different benefits and may be better for one's specific situation. They state that the first factor to consider is the thermal performance that an insulation material will provide a building. A material with high thermal performance will greatly increase the building's ability to disperse heat, but it will also cost more and may not be entirely necessary. Other materials may be more efficient at preventing, or slowing, the flow of moisture throughout the building. All those interested are invited to get a custom quote for a metal building project through CDMG’s website, where a thorough description of their services can be found as well.

The company states that they recommend Nucor Building Systems for insulation, given that they boast a well-rounded coverage of the aforementioned areas. Nucor offers a full line of insulated metal wall and roof panels that have cutting edge energy efficiency and embody attractive styling. Their panels are designed with the latest scientific advancements, making them both lightweight and durable while maintaining ease of installation and visual appeal.
