Lowenstein Sandler Opens Brooklyn Entrepreneurship Center

Lowenstein Sandler continues to expand its work with tech startup clients, announcing today it will open the Lowenstein Sandler Brooklyn Entrepreneurship Center (LSBEC), in DUMBO Brooklyn. This announcement follows Lowenstein’s deep engagement in the Northside Festival, a tech, innovation, music and film festival in Brooklyn that celebrates entrepreneurship.

While Lowenstein Sandler’s Tech Group will continue to serve entrepreneurial clients in Brooklyn, establishing the LSBEC underscores the firm’s deep commitment to Brooklyn. According to Brooklyn-born Charles Torres, Co-Chair of the LSBEC and a partner in the firm’s Tech Group, “We believe Brooklyn is a rapidly growing and increasingly important geography for tech, venture capital and innovation.” Torres continued, “We’re already working with many Brooklyn-based startups and founders on venture capital deals, intellectual property and many other matters and we felt strongly about officially being on the ground there.” Last year, Dow Jones named Lowenstein Sandler among the five most active law firms in the nation in venture capital. With this announcement, Lowenstein becomes the first of those firms to open in Brooklyn.

“The Lowenstein Sandler Brooklyn Entrepreneurship Center extends our Venture Crush platform, which we believe is unique in the industry, providing the venture and tech community with networking opportunities and mentoring events including VentureCrushAngelvine, and First Growth,” said Ed Zimmerman, Chair of the Lowenstein Sandler’s Tech Group and a Brooklyn native. “Months ago we surveyed our FirstGrowth companies and were surprised to find that almost all of them were either based in Brooklyn or had at least one founder living there,” said Zimmerman.

“The Lowenstein Sandler Brooklyn Entrepreneurship Center is another example of how deeply invested we are in the industries we serve,” said Gary M. Wingens, Lowenstein Sandler Chairman and Managing Partner. “The number of growing tech companies and entrepreneurs in Brooklyn continues to grow and we’re excited to work closely and alongside them.”

“We’ve been working with multiple incubators and organizations in Brooklyn since their inception,” said Peter Fusco, Co-Chair of the Lowenstein Center and a partner in Lowenstein’s Tech Group. “Our Brooklyn efforts really began within the New York University incubator system more than five years ago, and has evolved in the Brooklyn ecosystem. This launch reflects a deepening of our commitment.”

According to Lowenstein’s Charles Torres, who is also a member of the Brooklyn Technology and Education Consortium and works with the Brooklyn Innovation Center’s Startup Accelerator, “Being in Brooklyn is a natural progression, enabling us to engage more fully with tech innovators from Brooklyn, in Brooklyn.”
