Women Breaking The Rules And Making A Difference

There’s no hotter topic than female empowerment in the business arena at the moment. But how do women become empowered in the workplace?

(PRUnderground) November 29th, 2022

We asked five Australian female business leaders, and this is what they told us, you have to break “rules” to get to where you want to be. These are the rules they’ve adopted, instead.

Lisa Cox – Disability Influencer – “Be Fearless”

Lisa has overcome many challenges in her life, and she says one of the best ways to feel empowered is simply to “be fearless”. She says, “if you face the obstacles in life and overcome them, you’re a long way ahead of the group that refuses to even look at the problems in their way.”

This attitude has helped Lisa become one of Australia’s most influential people on disabilities and inclusivity.

Janine Leghissa – Founder of Desiderate Jewellery – “Show Confidence”

“That doesn’t mean you have to feel confident all the time, it just means you have to project confidence in the things you do. The old phrase ‘fake it, until you make it’ is very true when it comes to confidence. The more often you force yourself to act confident, the faster you will feel confident all the time.”

Janine says that it’s this confidence that allowed her to start her own jewellery brand. She says that it’s people’s ability to become confident in themselves that often marks the difference between success and never starting at all.

Julia Mann – Founder of Lash Tribe – “Define Success On Your Own Terms”

Julia says, “You can do anything. Society conditions us to feel that somehow, we’re not good enough or worthy of success, and that’s nonsense.”

Lash Tribe helps people succeed in the lash business, and Julia says that can start with helping people define success on their own terms. “You don’t have to aim for the traditional measures of success unless that’s what you want,” she says, “why not choose success that works for you? A mother whose business frees up more of her time to be with her kids is a success just as much as the person with a Porsche.”

Therese Tarlinton – Best Selling Author – “Find A Mentor”

Therese wrote the best-selling book “Swap! Marketing Without Money”, which won book of the year at the 2022 ABLE Awards. She says collaboration can help push a woman to the next level, but sometimes you can short cut that process slightly, by finding a mentor.

A mentor is someone who has been where you’ve been and can offer advice and support on your journey. Much like Therese now offers support to brands seeking to collaborate to create irresistible offers for their potential customers.

Melissa Van Kasteren – Founder Of Lujo Home – “Find Your Voice”

Melissa says you need to find your own identity and be true to it to get to where you want to be. She says that “I have some real physical restrictions in my life due to an autoimmune condition. So, I needed to find a way to be my authentic self and balance that with the demands of my condition.”

“If you know who you are, it’s so much easier to grow into a business success. I now work with luxurious silk products that reflect the relief I feel at the end of the day when I go to bed on soft sheets, and the relaxation I feel when touching something as beautiful as silk.”

Final Thoughts

Women are here to stay in the business world, and being empowered makes it easier to succeed. Fortunately, there are many trailblazers like the five women above who can offer tips on how to be an empowered woman in business.

Of course, breaking “rules”, really means breaking societal constraints. Rather than doing anything naughty, female empowerment is always legitimate.
