-- Before Brian Sohn ever placed a yard sign on a property, he had spent more than two decades learning how buildings actually come together. As a Union Carpenter and later a draftsman working across ten disciplines including architecture, civil engineering, mechanical systems, and even patent drawings, he developed a technical fluency with structures and land that most people in real estate simply never acquire. With 14 years in real estate and more than 20 in drafting, Brian brings over 30 combined years of experience to every conversation with a buyer or seller in Washington, Missouri and the surrounding communities.

Brian's entry into real estate was not planned. When the 2008 financial crisis stalled construction, he was collaborating with an architect on residential and commercial projects. He shifted to power plant work, then watched that effort freeze following a political standstill. Having always operated his own drafting business, he realized he had been selling his knowledge and skills to clients for years without calling it sales. The idea that he could apply all of that to real estate clicked, and what started as a temporary solution became a career.
What he did not expect was how much his technical background would reshape the way he read properties. Brian can walk through a home and evaluate it well beyond aesthetics or asking price. He understands construction at a foundational level, recognizes structural potential, and can trace the layers of design that shape a property's value over time. That perspective proves useful not just in evaluating listings but in helping clients understand what they are actually looking at and what it means for their finances and their future.
In his own words, real estate is hopes, dreams, the past, the future, and finances all coming together at once. That makes it highly emotional, and education is what steadies it. Brian works to get ahead of that pressure by using foresight to minimize the weight of the moment, giving clients the clarity they need to make confident decisions. He describes his role not as someone who pushes clients toward a conclusion but as someone who creates the conditions for them to reach their own.
A recent example reflects that approach clearly. An older couple came to him looking to sell a home they held in a trust. They had no checking account set up for the trust and were unaware they needed an EIN before closing could proceed. Brian walked them through each legal requirement ahead of time so nothing would surface as a surprise at the table. When the husband initially pushed back on the commission, Brian laid out everything he had already done on their behalf. The response: he was told he was earning his money. That kind of preparation is what Brian considers standard practice.
His business today runs almost entirely on referrals. He stepped away from paid lead generation about two and a half years ago and has not gone back. The relationships he has built over 14 years generate enough momentum on their own. One telling measure of how well he places clients is that most of them stay in their homes well beyond the market average, which he describes as the rewarding downside of doing the job right.
Brian has also built a presence beyond individual transactions as a brand ambassador for the American Dream TV network, where he co-hosts Selling St. Louis with Dennis Tate. The show gives him a platform to highlight local businesses, tell stories about the region, and showcase what makes the St. Louis area worth living in. It functions less as a vehicle for listings and more as an ongoing investment in the community that has supported his career.
His record reflects the trust clients have extended to him over time. He has surpassed twenty million dollars in individual sales in a single year on two occasions and reached one hundred transactions as an individual in a single year twice as well. In 2021, the Franklin County Board of REALTORS named him Realtor Salesperson of the Year, a recognition voted on by fellow realtors rather than a selection committee. He has also earned the Icon designation every year since joining eXp Realty, the organization's highest sales tier.
For Brian, the philosophy behind all of it is the same one he has held from the beginning: serve clients, not contracts. Whether the transaction involves a first home or a generational property held in a family trust, his approach does not shift. He prepares people for what is coming, walks them through it clearly, and makes sure that when the moment arrives, they are ready.
