Lydian Cosmetic Surgery Clinic announced orthopedic stem cell therapy services in Gwangjin, Seoul, as growing clinical research continues driving interest in regenerative medicine for knee osteoarthritis, cartilage damage, and other orthopedic conditions.

-- Growing interest in regenerative orthopedics is reshaping how some patients evaluate care options for knee osteoarthritis, cartilage damage, and chronic joint pain. Against this backdrop, Lydian Cosmetic Surgery Clinic has announced the availability of autologous stem cell therapy consultations for knee osteoarthritis and selected orthopedic conditions at its Seoul facility.

The trend is being driven by several factors, including aging populations, rising rates of joint degeneration, patient interest in less invasive treatment pathways, and ongoing clinical research into biologic therapies. For patients who have not achieved sufficient relief from conservative care but are not ready or eligible for joint replacement surgery, regenerative medicine has become an area of increasing inquiry.
A 2023 phase III randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 261 patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 knee osteoarthritis evaluated intra-articular injection of autologous culture-expanded adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and reported greater six-month improvements in pain and function scores versus placebo, according to the study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
While that study does not represent Lydian Clinic’s own clinical outcomes or establish that all stem cell protocols produce the same results, it reflects the type of research driving patient and clinician interest in autologous cell-based orthopedic care.
“Orthopedic regenerative medicine continues to evolve as researchers gain a better understanding of how stem cells interact with damaged joint tissue,” said Dr. Abraham An of Lydian Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. “Stem cell therapy is not appropriate for every patient, and careful screening is essential. Our goal is to help patients understand the available evidence, the limitations, and the risks before deciding whether this type of treatment is suitable for them.”
Candidates may include adults with knee pain, cartilage degeneration, or osteoarthritis who have not achieved sufficient relief from conservative care. The treatment is not presented as a replacement for surgical repair in cases involving complete ligament rupture, major instability, or advanced structural joint damage.
South Korea continues to play a visible role in regenerative medicine research and biologic therapies. Lydian Clinic is designated by South Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare as an Advanced Regenerative Medicine Implementing Institution and provides regenerative medicine services under applicable Korean medical regulations.
