Denver Concrete Flooring Company Reports Surge in Low-Bid Repairs as Custom Concrete Prep and Polish Bets on Quality Over Price
As inflation and tariffs reshape the commercial flooring industry, CCPP is turning competitor failures into a growth opportunity while developing autonomous grinding technology.

Custom Concrete Prep and Polish (CCPP), a Denver-based commercial flooring company serving the Mountain West, has built a quiet second revenue stream out of fixing other contractors' mistakes. In 2024 alone, the company generated significant revenue repairing floors that low-bid competitors left behind -- a figure that tells a broader story about quality and accountability in the concrete industry.

"When you hire a guy you've never heard of and just pick the low number, don't be surprised if you get an inferior product," said Mark, who co-founded CCPP in October 2014 and continues to run day-to-day operations.

CCPP offers polished concrete, epoxy floor coatings, polyaspartic coatings, floor leveling, moisture mitigation, and surface preparation to commercial, retail, and industrial clients throughout the Denver metro and surrounding Colorado markets. The company's client portfolio includes large-format retailers and national distribution facilities, and it maintains an active database of hundreds of general contractors.

A Reputation Built on No Surprises

In commercial construction, floor contractors are just one piece of a project that involves electricians, plumbers, HVAC crews, and dozens of other tradespeople all working to a shared deadline. CCPP has made responsiveness and schedule reliability its core differentiator, and says the industry's low bar makes it easy to stand out.

"I bet if I gave you a file of our competitors and you called them all today, you'd have to leave voicemails, their voicemails are full, and one would call you back out of ten," Mark said. "We return our phone calls and emails. We do exactly what we say. We never miss a date."

The company acknowledges it is not the cheapest option. "If you get ten bids, we're going to be the fifth or sixth, right in the middle," Mark said. "But we have really, really good customer service. Our word is spot on. We very rarely have change orders." That consistency has earned CCPP long-term loyalty among general contractors who cannot afford the budget overruns and scheduling chaos that come with low-bid surprises.

Tariffs, Competition, and a Jump in Business

The economic volatility of recent years, inflation, supply chain disruptions, rising labor costs, has thinned the competitive field. Several larger regional competitors have shuttered or downsized to one-person operations without the proper licensing and insurance required for commercial work. And contrary to expectations, the recent tariff environment has been a tailwind for CCPP.

"When the tariffs took place last April, our business jumped forty percent," Mark said. "The tariffs actually leveled the playing field because people became more focused on customer service and quality instead of price."

New Profit Centers: Diamonds and Autonomous Machines

Rather than pursue rapid revenue expansion, Custom Concrete Prep and Polish has focused on building adjacent profit centers within its existing infrastructure. One of the most significant is a diamond import operation. After discovering that Chinese-manufactured grinding diamonds had improved substantially in quality, the company began importing them directly and now resells them to competitors at a fraction of the domestic price.

For now, the company is focused on steady, profitable growth. "Instead of just expanding, I think we're going to focus on developing new profit centers in our existing business," Mark said.
