Survey will run until August 31 and seeks to better understand Indianian business owners’ exit readiness levels
Exit Planning Institute® (EPI), the leading authority on exit planning for advisors, business consultants, and business owners, along with the State of Indiana's Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation announced today the opening of the Indiana State of Owner Readiness™ Survey, which will be open from now until August 31.
Earlier this year, EPI partnered with State of Indiana's Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in support of the Keep IN Initiative, a statewide campaign to equip Indiana business owners with the resources, education, and transition planning tools. Building on the earlier partnership, EPI developed the Indiana State of Owner Readiness™ Survey, which will gather confidential feedback from privately held business owners throughout Indiana to better understand owners’ exit readiness.
"Too many business owners don't begin planning for the future until a transition is already on the horizon,” said EPI Director of Strategic Relationships Josh Koza. “This partnership is an opportunity to change that by equipping Indiana entrepreneurs with the education, resources, and framework they need to build stronger, more valuable, and transition-ready businesses. When business owners are better prepared, the impact extends far beyond the individual company—strengthening families, preserving jobs, and contributing to a more resilient economy across Indiana."
The survey will run from today until August 31 and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Individual responses will never be published, and the responses will remain completely anonymous.
“Our research has shown that increased owner readiness leads to stronger businesses, stronger transitions, and healthier local economies,” said Scott Snider, President of EPI. “We encourage Indiana business owners at all stages of their exit planning process to participate so that the research can establish an accurate statewide benchmark for owner readiness.”
For nearly 10 years, EPI has partnered with regional organizations to survey business owners on business attractiveness and exit preparedness as a part of its State of Owner Readiness research. Most recently EPI helped Tennessee, Minnesota and Colorado along with the city of Los Angeles to orchestrate similar research. The findings of the survey are expected to be published in the Indiana State of Owner Readiness regional report at the end of October 2026. Indiana business owners are invited to participate in the survey.
