The ESSENCE Girls United x Kensington Grey Creator Mixer was both a celebration and a continuation of that larger investment. Throughout the afternoon, guests connected across industries and disciplines, with attendees spanning beauty, style, wellness, entertainment, commentary, entrepreneurship, and lifestyle. The mixer reflected spaces increasingly defining the creator experience, where talent is no longer confined to a single vertical and building influence across multiple lanes at once. At a time when so much of digital culture is shaped online, the event offered room for creators to meet face-to-face, exchange ideas, and build relationships beyond the feed featuring appearances by Alexis Alston, Dr. Joel Bervell, Patti Roberts, Sahar Khorram, Carrie Snipes, Nita Danielle, Donyae Taylor, and more.

The mixer arrived at a moment when creators are playing an increasingly central role in how culture is shaped, shared, and experienced, and as ESSENCE continues to expand the ways it shows up for them. Across this year’s Festival, that commitment extended beyond a single event, with creator-centered programming woven throughout the weekend, including the ESSENCE Creator & Podcast Festival, which created new space for hundreds of digital storytellers, podcast talent, and emerging voices to connect with audiences, collaborators, brand partners, and industry leaders in real life.

“ESSENCE Girls United is committed to creating spaces where young Black creatives can be in community, build relationships, and feel supported as they navigate a rapidly changing creator economy.” said Rechelle Dennis, Director of ESSENCE Franchises. “Partnering with Kensington Grey during ESSENCE Festival of Culture® weekend gave us the opportunity to do that in a way that felt intentional, celebratory, and grounded in the future of Black storytelling.”

That sense of possibility carried through the conversations happening across the room. Creators spoke candidly about the realities of building sustainable careers in an industry that often rewards speed over substance, from navigating burnout and audience expectations to thinking more strategically about ownership, long-term brand alignment, and business-building beyond social platforms. For many in attendance, the future of influence is less about chasing virality and more about creating work, communities, and revenue streams that can last.

“The mixer has become such an integral part of the creator experience at ESSENCE Festival of Culture®. It's important to us to cultivate intentional spaces where Black creators can come together, be celebrated, and build real connections with one another,” said Shannae Ingleton, CEO, Co-Founder, and President of Kensington Grey.

The event also reflected the increasingly fluid ways creators are moving across content, commerce, and entrepreneurship. Whether through podcasts, product development, live experiences, long-form storytelling, or brand partnerships that extend beyond a single post, the creators in attendance represented a generation thinking expansively about what influence can become. Within that landscape, spaces like the ESSENCE Girls United x Kensington Grey Creator Mixer serve as something greater than a social gathering. They create opportunities for connection, collaboration, and the kind of relationship-building that can shape what comes next.
