Mr. Bulu has worked in the wastewater field for more than 25 years. Since 2011, he has been with Weston & Sampson in Massachusetts, joining the firm as an operator before being promoted to lead operator. In this role, he helps oversee the daily operation of five wastewater treatment plants in southeastern Massachusetts. His work focuses on keeping these systems running safely and meeting strict environmental standards.

Each day, Mr. Bulu monitors plant operations and checks water quality levels. He tracks water flow and tests key parameters, including pH, ammonia and nitrate levels. These checks help confirm that treated water meets safety requirements before it returns to the environment. He also prepares monthly reports for submission to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Mr. Bulu works closely with maintenance teams to handle repairs and improvements at the treatment plants. He inspects equipment, orders necessary supplies and helps ensure each facility remains in good working order. His efforts help prevent contamination and protect nearby ponds, rivers, streams and groundwater.

Mr. Bulu's work also includes helping advance newer treatment methods that remove very small contaminants from water. These systems use advanced filtration to capture materials that older treatment methods may miss. In some cases, the treated water can be as clean as it was before entering the system.

Mr. Bulu's career in water operations began in his hometown of Duxbury, Massachusetts. After graduating from high school, he worked in construction while studying electrical and plumbing trades. He later joined the town's water and sewer department, where he discovered a strong interest in water system operations. That experience led him to the wastewater field, where he has remained ever since.

Over the years, Mr. Bulu gained experience with several organizations, including F.R. Mahoney & Associates and the town of Marion, Massachusetts' wastewater division. These roles helped him build the skills needed to manage complex treatment systems before joining Weston & Sampson.

Making an Impact

One of Mr. Bulu's proudest achievements is earning his Grade 5 wastewater operator license, which represents a high level of training and experience in the field. He continues to work toward earning a Grade 6 license as the next step in his professional growth.

Mr. Bulu holds an associate degree and continues to expand his skills through professional training. In 2025, he completed the course "Leading Diverse Teams to Success" through LinkedIn Learning. He is also a member of the New England Water Environment Association.

Outside of work, Mr. Bulu enjoys gardening and growing vegetables and flowers. He also enjoys writing and has self-published two books. He credits his success to hard work, persistence and the support he receives from his employer.
