Chill structures and cracks have long challenged gray cast iron welding, especially in high‑integrity valve sealing applications. WINDUS has now been granted an invention patent for its “Automatic Welding Process for Nickel‑Based Surfacing on Sealing Surfaces of Gray Cast Iron Valve Bodies.”

Through precise control over preheating, filler metal, shielding gas, heat input, robotic path, and post‑weld cooling, the process achieves perfect metallurgical fusion between nickel‑based filler and gray cast iron, ensuring first‑pass seal integrity.

Production validation confirms the process reliably eliminates porosity, overweld, underfill, undercut, and weld collapse, with excellent weld quality.

The technology is already applied in WINDUS’s proprietary PEC eccentric plug valve (AWWA C517 compliant). WINDUS has also been invited to participate in drafting China’s national standard “Cast Iron – Part 2: Welding” (Plan No. 20251837‑Z‑469).
