Notice to the Market

Pursuant to the provisions of article 157, paragraph 4, of Law nº 6,404/76 and of CVM Instruction nº 358/2002, ARACRUZ CELULOSE S.A. announces that, together with its partner Stora Enso, the company has decided to put off the planned expansion of Veracel (Veracel II project) for at least a year. Consequently, the corresponding investments scheduled for 2009, amounting to R$ 75 million (Aracruz’s part) and involving land purchases, forest development and a feasibility study, will now be cancelled. The partners believe that this is a prudent step, in view of the present market scenario.
